Earlier today, financing agreements totalling €46.85 million (approximately Kshs. 7.2 billion) were formally exchanged to advance cooperation on the digitalisation of TVET in Kenya. The high-level ceremony was attended by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba, EBS; the French Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad, Ms Éléonore Caroit; the EU Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Henriette Geiger; the Deputy German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Alexander Fierley; and the French Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Arnaud Suquet.
The Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET), as the national capacity-building and policy support institution for the TVET sector, plays a central role in the implementation of this transformative initiative. Through its mandate of training TVET trainers, institutional leaders, and ODeL practitioners, KSTVET will spearhead capacity development in digital pedagogy, instructional design, LMS integration, and quality assurance for technology-enhanced learning across the country.
Under the leadership of the CEO, KSTVET, Dr. Edwin Tarno, the institution continues to champion the modernisation of Kenya’s TVET system by leveraging open-source technologies, scalable digital platforms, and strategic international partnerships. Dr. Tarno reaffirmed KSTVET’s commitment to ensuring that the investment translates into practical institutional transformation, enhanced trainer competencies, and expanded access to high-quality, technology-enabled training.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Kenya noted that investing in digital skills is one of the most powerful investments in people and in the future. Through this partnership, the European Union and its Member States are supporting Kenya to modernise its TVET system, harness digitalisation, and equip young people with skills that match the realities of today’s and tomorrow’s digital economy.
Through coordinated implementation with the Ministry of Education and development partners, KSTVET will serve as a strategic anchor institution, ensuring that the digitalisation agenda is human-centred, inclusive, sustainable, and firmly aligned with Kenya’s national priorities.
