KSTVET Leads the CBET Revolution at JKUAT

In a bold stride toward transforming higher education, the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET) has partnered with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to champion Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) across university faculties.

Led by KSTVET CEO, Dr. Edwin Tarno, and supported by a stellar team of facilitators: Lucy, Francis, Peter, and Florence, with coordination by Milka; the training ushered in a new wave of learner-centered, skills-driven education at JKUAT. Faculty members were so inspired by the impact of CBET that many pledged to leave behind the traditional title of “lecturer” in favor of “facilitator” or “trainer” a powerful shift in both identity and pedagogy.

The enthusiasm was contagious. Participants not only requested continued mentorship through KSTVET, but also expressed keen interest in visiting the institution to witness CBET in action.

Global Recognition, African Pride

KSTVET’s commitment to excellence has earned it international acclaim, twice winning the prestigious WFCP Teacher Professional Development Award and placing third globally—an unprecedented achievement for an African institution. These honors, received in Montreal (2023) and Montego Bay (2024), affirm KSTVET’s status as a trailblazer in educational transformation.

CBET: More Than a Model – A Movement

At KSTVET, CBET is redefining the future of teaching and learning in Africa. As the movement gains momentum, institutions of higher learning are urged to embrace this change and equip Kenyan youth with skills that matter.
