The Vice-Chancellor of Maasai Mara University, Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho, has officially launched a five-day Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Capacity Building Workshop for academic staff.
The workshop, facilitated by the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET), is being held from 9th to 13th March 2026 and focuses on strengthening staff capacity in CBET delivery methodology. The programme brings together academic staff in a transformative professional development initiative aimed at preparing the University for Kenya’s evolving education system as institutions transition to Competency-Based Education (CBE).
While opening the training, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need to shift from traditional content-based teaching approaches to learner-centred models that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and practical competence development.
The capacity-building programme addresses key institutional priorities, including:
– Realignment of degree programmes to CBE competencies
– Transition from lecture-heavy teaching to competency-based, industry-responsive learning
– Strengthening faculty capacity to support the national shift from the 8-4-4 system to a competency-based framework
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Bulitia Godrick Mathews, during the launch.
This initiative underscores Maasai Mara University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and alignment with national education reforms.
